Benjamin D. Rubin, M.D., M.S.
Dr.
Rubin is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon with subspecialty
fellowship training in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery.
He specializes in Sports Medicine, and Arthroscopic and
Reconstructive Shoulder and Knee Surgery. He is a founding member of the Orthopaedic Specialty Institute and has been a Clinical Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine.
Dr. Rubin is the founder of the Sports
Medicine Committee of United States Diving, and served as the
committee chairman and national team physician for U.S. Diving
from 1982-2003, and as team physician for the Olympic Games in
1984, 1988 and 1992. Ben was a U.S. team physician for the
Maccabiah Games in Israel in 1985. During the past 30 years he has
participated as the team physician for a number of local high
schools and universities, and continues to be the team physician
for Servite High School in Anaheim, CA and for a number of local
and regional swimming and diving clubs.
Dr. Rubin was
raised in the Bronx, N.Y., and received his Bachelor of Science
degree at Cornell University where he was on the Dean’s List, and
his Master of Science in Anatomy at Jefferson Medical College
before attending the Medical College of Pennsylvania in
Philadelphia where he was awarded the prize for Excellence in
Surgery. He interned at the University of Texas at Houston, and
completed his Orthopedic Residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt
Hospital in New York City. His Sports Medicine Fellowships were
performed at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, MA where he
worked with the Boston Red Sox and the Harvard teams, and at the
Kerlan Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles, CA.
Dr. Rubin
feels strongly about giving back to his community and his medical
specialty. He has contributed to the field of Sports Medicine by
doing clinical research and publishing numerous articles and book
chapters and he is a frequent lecturer and instructor at local,
national and international meetings. He has lectured extensively
on the evaluation of shoulder mechanics, physical examination and
rehabilitation, and the biomechanics of injuries in swimming and
diving in the United States, Europe and South America. He is a
Master Instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North
America, teaching surgical skills courses to orthopaedic surgeons
from the U.S. and abroad, has been Chairman of the Ethics and
Standards Committee, and serves on the Orthopaedic Learning Center
committee of the Arthroscopy Association of North America.
Dr. Rubin is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, the
International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery, and
Orthopaedic Sports Medicine, the American Orthopedic Society for
Sports Medicine, the Olympic Sports Medicine Society, the Western
Orthopaedic Association, the California Medical Association, and
the Orange County Medical Association
Dr. Rubin enjoys
spending time with his wife Judy, his daughter Alyson and son in law
Brian and their son Cameron, and his Rhodesian Ridgeback Jasper.
He also enjoys traveling, photography, jogging and working out.
